HOUSTON, September 3, 2019 –  All eyes are still on Hurricane Dorian as it begins its slow trek up the southeast coast of the U.S. Dorian’s wind speeds and intensity have decreased from Sunday, making the storm now a Category 2 hurricane. Nevertheless, impacts of Dorian will be significant from the coastline of Florida to parts of Georgia, South Carolina, North Carolina, and possibly Virginia this week.

Although Dorian’s wind speeds have decreased over the past 48 hours, its wind field has expanded. This means that tropical storm-force winds now extend up to 160 miles from the eye of the storm, which in turn means a wider area of impact for those in the path of the storm.

A hurricane warning and storm surge warning have been issued for part of Florida’s east coast. Flooding is anticipated along the coast of Florida, Georgia, and South  Carolina over the next few days.

The possibility of Hurricane Dorian making landfall somewhere along the southeast coast is still probable and citizens should continue to remain on high alert. There is currently a state of emergency active in 5 southeastern U.S. states including Florida, Georgia, South Carolina, North Carolina, and Virginia.
